At age 15 Willow Smith is no stranger to the spotlight. Not only does she come from a family of actors and actresses, she’s also got her foot in a piece of the entertainment industry after her song ‘Whip My Hair’ was released in 2011.
A singer, dancer and actress in her own light, she doesn’t need dad Will Smith (actor, producer, rapper, songwriter), mum Jada Pinkett Smith (actress, singer-songwriter, author, and businesswoman) or even older brother Jaden’s (actor, model, rapper) name to make it to the front row of the industry.
Now Willow has even more to be proud of. The once sassy, willowy (excuse the pun) young girl whipping her dreadlocks back and forth in her catchy music video is now an edgy, cat-eyed ambassador for Chanel. No mean feat for a teen.
Appearing in a badass cat-suit at the Paris Fashion Week Chanel Fall-Winter 2016/17 Ready-to-Wear show at Grand Palais, the teen was every bit the fashionista in the Chanel black and silver mesh suit. With her dreadlocks tied up into twin buns, septum ring, eye-catching bright blue eyeliner and devil-may-care modelesque looks, Willow was a teen girl turned superhero. It wouldn’t be wrong to compare her suit as a more chic version of what brother Jaden wore in his role alongside dad, Will in their movie After Earth would it?
Ever the sophisticated young lady, she posted an Instagram snap of herself standing next to Karl Lagerfield himself backstage after the show with the caption “Thank you Karl Lagerfeld and the entire team at Chanel for expanding the perceptions of ‘beauty’ by picking me to be the new Chanel ambassador. I am honored,” and hashtagging it #BLACKGIRLMAGIC.
Willow Smith’s relationship with Chanel has a history dating back to 2013. The teen trendsetter has been a faithful Chanel supporter since then, wearing Chanel outfits for public appearances. However her encounter with Karl Lagerfield, the man behind the brand name occurred in 2014 when she was being photographed for the American magazine V.
