Those of us who grew up in the ‘80s may be familiar with Cho as Harold Lee in the Harold and Kumar comedy films as well as Hikari Sulu in Star Trek. The Harold and Kumar trilogy was shot on a modest US$40 million budget but brought home US$116 million in box office returns and has done well on video. Considered one of the most established Asian actors in Hollywood, John has raked up several firsts in his career. In 2014, he became the first Asian actor to take on a lead romantic role as Henry Higgs in the movie, Selfie. He made history again in 2018 when he became the first Asian leading actor in a mainstream Hollywood action-thriller film for the movie, Searching–about a man combing social media for clues about his missing daughter. John, who is of Korean descent married actress Kerri Higuchi in 2006 and the extremely private pair currently live in Los Angeles, California with their two children.
