YABhg Tun Dr Siti Hasmah Binti Mohd Ali was one of Malaysia’s first female doctors and wife of our longest-serving Prime Minister. She turned 90 on July 12th this year and her beloved family members and close friends gathered at the Glasshouse in Seputeh to honour a lifetime of her achievements. She held many roles, as a career women, Prime Minister’s wife, mother, grandmother and an inspiration to a nation, as part of her birthday celebration afternoon tea she launched her biography.
The book entitled My Name is Hasmah, a collection of warm and delightful stories of her upbringing, career in medicine and adventures(and occasional misadventures) as she travelled the world by her husband’s side. A tea party hosted by her family was held to launch the book and honour Tun Dr Siti Hasmah on her 90th birthday. At the afternoon tea we got an insight to the Tun Mahathir’s family, and discovered Tun’s love for art, theater and music. Her grandchildren took centre stage at this intimate tea party with her grandson Mahathir delivering an opening speech, followed by 2 granddaughters serenading us with a song. It was indeed a celebration of life, love and family.
“Our mother deserves a lot of appreciation for all that she has achieved in her lifetime. That’s why we insisted she did this book so that more people will be inspired and benefit from her experiences,” said Datin Paduka Marina Mahathir, Tun Dr Siti Hasmah’s eldest child.
My Name is Hasmah was written with the help of a team of editors from Salt Media Group and published by Kumpulan Karangkraf under its Alaf21 imprint. The 248 page book will be sold at bookstores at a reatil price of RM80.
