And we cannot wait.
Ever since it was announced that a Mary Poppins sequel was in the works, we have been counting down the days till its official release.
The upcoming film, starring Emily Blunt as Mary Poppins, is based on P.L. Travers’ book series, with the plot following on from the 1964 Disney classic that we all know and love.
Mary Poppins Returns will take place 20 years later, following the story of a now-grown Michael Banks as he is reunited with his magical childhood nanny Mary Poppins who helps him to sort out his own children.
While we still have a bit of a wait for Mary Poppins Returns to hit our screens, debuting at cinemas next December, Disney has released a sneak peak of Emily Blunt as Poppins, and it’s getting us excited already.
Taking to Facebook and Twitter, Walt Disney Studios shared a video of Emily Blunt in character, captioning it: ‘Emily Blunt is Mary Poppins in the upcoming sequel, #MaryPoppinsReturns. The brand new film opens in theatres December 2018. #D23Expo’
The new film, directed by Rob Marshall, is set to be a big change from the original, promising an all-new soundtrack (no ‘Spoonful of Sugar’ for us) and boasting a star-studded cast.
Aside from Blunt, Colin Firth has also joined the project, set to play Bank president, William Weatherall Wilkins, and Hamilton’s Lin-Manuel Miranda has been cast as Bert’s equivalent – a street lamp lighter called Jack – even Meryl Streep has been given a cameo. It’s just too much.
Bring on December 2018.
