In a tribute to Jo Cox, the British band Portishead released a video for their downbeat cover of Abba’s pop classic SOS.
Jo Cox, the Batley and Spen ML was tragically killed last week after she was shot three times and repeatedly stabbed, not far from Birstall Library where she was holding a constituency surgery. As she lay bleeding to death, the assailant repeatedly kicked her before walking away, subsequently stabbing a 77-year-old man who tried to intervene. Hundreds of Mrs Cox’s friends and colleagues gathered for a vigil at St Peter’s Church in Birstall earlier.
In honour of her tireless campaigning in support of refugees, iconic Bristol trip-hop band Portishead have released a video to go alongside their cover of Abba’s SOS.
It features singer Beth Gibbons, shot alone in monochrome, reaching out towards the camera before ending with Cox’s quote from her maiden speech in parliament: “We have far more in common than which divides us.”
