So more than half the year has gone by and December can’t seem to come quickly enough. Life has thrown you all sorts of challenges this year and you can’t seem to catch a break! Work, family, relationships, health… how much can one person take before the cracks start to show?
The good news is that you don’t have to let your everyday reality dictate your life. It’s easy to get sucked further down into a hole of self-pity which can spiral into depression, but it’s important to recognise these feelings and fight back. So switch off your phone, and take a mini-vacation from your routine with these quick ways to get out of your head; whether it be setting aside 15 minutes daily or a full day depending on your life commitments. Start making lemonade with these lifestyle changes in the long run to a better and happier you, now!
IF YOU HAVE 10 MINUTES..
No matter how little time you have in a day, always make time for gratitude. Relying on external factors to make you happy will only end in disappointment so instead, find a childlike innocence to every little thing that you do. After all, happiness is a state of mind.
STEP AWAY FROM
If you’re at work, get up from your chair and walk over to a colleague’s desk and engage in a conversation or look outside the window and give your eyes and stress levels a break. At night, leave the electronics away from the bed at least an hour before bedtime.
BRING A PLANT TO WORK
Plants not only purify the air around you, but they give the eyes something to look at which helps to relax and de-stress your eyes and state of mind.
YOGA & MEDITATION
The beauty of yoga is that you can do it for any amount of time, anywhere. If you don’t have much time to spare, focus on your pranayama or “life force” – basically, your breathing. Close your eyes, focus on filling up your chest with air by slowly inhaling, and exhaling the same way. This helps to calm us down and reduce blood pressure. Follow ‘feelgood’ Youtube guru Yoga with Adrienne for various exercises to help every situation.
DO YOUR MAKEUP DIFFERENTLY
Allocate 10 minutes every day to do something different with your look; maybe try a new lip colour or change how you do your hair. Pick up a tutorial online on how to braid your hair or a chic messy updo. You may even get a compliment or two and what better way to start the day!
DO SOMETHING NICE FOR SOMEONE ELSE
It doesn’t have to be a big gesture; Hold the door open for someone, buy a drink for the next customer. Not only will you feel better, you’ll realise that even at your lowest, you’re still strong enough to spread joy to the world. That makes you kind of awesome. Go you!
