As of late, Disney has been rekindling our inner child’s spirit with constant reboots of their most memorable movies. We’ve relived the fantasy of Beauty and the Beast, The Jungle Book and are patiently waiting for live-actions of Dumbo and Mulan. Now added to the list is none other than Lion King.
Some 24 years since the animated version of the film was introduced, 2019 sees the brand new live action remake be brought to life- and it’s already broken a Disney record.
In just the first 24 hours of the trailer being released, it accumulated an incredible 224.6 million views around the world. This made it Disney’s most-viewed trailer in a single day. The record is just shy of the Avengers: Infinity War record which garnered 238 million views. Following numbers of previous live-action releases from Disney, no other has garnered this much of a response from the public. And to add another pang of nostalgia: Disney wistfully takes us back all those years ago as the new trailer copies shot for shot of the one released in 1994.
The star studded cast sees rapper Donald Glover take on the role of Simba, and queen Bey herself, Beyoncé, portrays the role of Nala. The only actor to have reprise a role from the original cartoon film is James Earl Jones who plays Mufasa.
A movie tied to so many of our childhoods, the feeling of nostalgia is in the air and we already have our calendars marked. Check out the trailer below!
