Cathay Dragon customers will be delighted to know that the airline is offering a mouth-watering array of local delicacies onboard selected flights after announcing its latest edition of “Hong Kong Delights” inflight menu featuring four Hong Kong favourites which are puff pastry egg tart, pineapple bun with butter, cocktail bun and Hong Kong-style milk tea.
First introduced in 2011, Cathay Dragon’s “Hong King Delights” menu takes inspiration from Hong Kong’s famous and unique café – or “Cha Chaan Teng”. From 16 March to 15 May 2017, First and Business Class passengers on selected flights to Beijing and Shanghai will be able to enjoy puff pastry egg tarts and pineapple bun with butter while customers across all travel on most flights originating in Hong Kong get to enjoy Hong-Kong style milk tea.
First Class passengers on selected flights to Beijing and Shanghai can also indulge in a cocktail bun, a sweet coconut-filled pastry that has made a name for itself in eateries across the city.
From adjusting the cooking processes to refining the recipes of the puff pastry egg tarts, pineapple buns and cocktail buns, efforts are made to ensure passengers get to enjoy high quality delicacies that are just as tasty in the air as they do on the ground. For instance, the egg tarts are made from the mixture of fresh milk and special combination of fresh cream and egg. Timing of the baking and reheating process is handled with precision to retain the crisp texture of the pastry while maintain the softness of the filling.
Meanwhile, the pineapple bun is first baked at a high temperature for the dough to harden before baking it again at a lower heat to maintain the bun’s moistness. A careful reheating procedure inflight will then give the bun its distinctive crunch.
Finally, a glass of Hong-Kong style milk tea from the noted Tai Hing Restaurant chain is served to go with the egg tart and pineapple bun.
