Marie Claire’s Epicurean Society brings you What Women Want: The Different Perceptions of Beauty. In this installment together with beauty brand Simone Mahler, and guest speakers Nana- Al-Haleq and Xandria Ooi, they discuss the issue surrounding perceptions of beauty today.
The event took place on the 9th November at Acme Bar & Coffee where the guests enjoyed a skin analysis from Simone Mahler. Afternoon tea was served followed by an introduction by Managing Editor Aster Lim.
Nana Al-Haleq expresses her concerns on celebrating changing perceptions of beauty. As a bodybuilder herself, she challenges the stereotypical perceptions of beauty people have towards women.
Slowly getting back at this. Extra juju's kinda make everything seems difficult somehow. Having tight hip flexors due to imbalances kinda make it harder too. I seriously need to work on my imbalances, stretch more, and yoga. Morning abs, upper body & cardio session tomorrow. I need to train smarter, never skip warm up & stretching, stick to the nutrition plan and get enough REST (I am still working on this. Somehow i tend to overwork & overload myself with task). Rest well lovelies. Be excited coz tomorrow is Friday!
Xaxdria Ooi gave a motivational talk on beauty, happiness, confidence and accepting ourselves.
Growing up, we learn about the joy of giving, of helping others and being generous. Rarely though, does someone tell us to receive and WHY it's great to do so. ??? – It's important to know that there is a huge difference between receiving and taking. Taking is entitlement, from the consequence of taking things for granted. ?Receiving, on the other hand, is connection that is built on joy and gratitude. ??? – When we reject someone’s compliment, gift or offer to help, we think we are acting on a code of honour, that it is the humble thing to do. ? But we forget that human connection is forged by giving AND receiving. ? – This is why, strangely enough, asking someone for help or favours, even a stranger, can create a bond even though the person is giving you something. ?The moment we receive, goodwill is forged. ?? And goodwill is something that is very hard to forget, very hard to take for granted. – When someone does you a favour, when someone buys you a meal, when someone pays you a compliment, chances are you’ll remember it. ??? And it’ll inspire you to give more, to either return the good deed to that person sometime in the future, or to pay it forward. – It is when we know how good it feels to receive, that we remember to pass on that feeling to someone else. ?? This is why receiving doesn’t make us more selfish, but more generous. ?? When we expand our ability to receive, we also expanding our capacity to give. ❤️ – Click on link in bio to watch 'Yes, Thank You.' ???? #behappyalways #BHA #BHAvers #themagicofreceiving
