If you, like me, have never heard of the Suicide Squad before last year’s reveal at Comic Con, here’s a brief run-down version of the anti-heroes.
From left to right: Slipknot does knots, Boomerang throws (you guessed it) boomerangs, Enchantress is a witch-possessed human, Katana is a vigilante samurai whose sword traps souls, Rick Flag is essentially the captain of the squad, Harley Quinn is your insanely infamous and infamously insane girl, Deadshot is your master marksman, Killer Croc has crocodile aesthetics, El Diablo is the fire bloke.
1. “I can’t wait to show you my toys!”
It’s been years since we were treated to a rendition of the infamous green-haired, pasty faced, maniacal supervillian. Heath Ledger will go down as one of the most iconic Joker portrayals in history but Jared Leto in all the released trailers so far? Crazier than a bat. Let’s not forget about the times he took his Joker role too far by sending his cast members odd gifts in the mail: bullets, used condoms, a hog head, a live rat, and recently a live snake to Jimmy Fallon on his show.
2. “Let’s do something fun.”
Cara Delevigne plays a dissociative personality disorder doctor June Moone who also houses an old entity (read: evil sorceress). We don’t know much about this character yet, but bets are placed on Dr Moone losing her control over Enchantress. Is she part of the squad or is she the one that wrecks havoc?
3. “What’s this? I should kill everyone and escape?”
Let’s be honest, a big part of the reason we’re so hyped up about this movie is because of Margot Robbie playing the deranged, attractive in a girl-gone-wrong kind of way Harley Quinn. Funny, sexy, kooky, and possibly crazier than the joker, expect a lot of entertainment to come in the form of this doll-faced princess.
4. Harleen Quinzel -> Harley Quinn
And how she ends up joining forces with the Joker. This image of The Joker carrying Harley out of a vat full of acid hints at the infamous Harley Quinn birth story as seen in the comics.
5. How this Joker + Harley arc pans out
Have we already ticked Joker and Harley off the list? How did Harley go from being one of the SKWAD members to (spoiler, not so spoiler alert) trying to off Batman in a purple Lamborghini? Did the Joker create Harley or did Harley create herself to be with the Joker? It’s a twisted relationship but that’s what draws us in.
Suicide Squad will be released globally on 5th August but here’s a tip: your local GSCs and TGVs already have the highly anticipated movies on screen tonight (3rd August)!
