You may recognise Juliana Evans from commercials and as the face of beauty brands. The talented and very charming actress recently took some time off from her studies to have a chat with us.
What got you started in acting?
I don’t know why, but I think that acting has always been in me. Ever since I was a little girl I knew that one day I will be an actress, or at least fall into acting. It’s probably because I have been acting in commercials all my life. That’s why I was never in a rush. I finished high school, and got into acting right after.
Who or what are your inspirations?
My mother. Who gives me never ending support, and the fact that she always has faith in me and inspires me so much to pursue my dream.
How do you think women are represented in Malaysian cinema?
Well, I’m glad that nowadays in Malaysia, women characters are being developed into a more leading role, strong and independent. The past decades has seen that most of these roles are dominated by men. In the west more and more films have included women as part of a superhero team and I think we should be moving on the same direction as we do have many talented actresses that can match such leading roles.
What do you think of the local film industry?
I feel that the local film industry is growing rapidly ever since I left Malaysia in 2012. There’s been a surge of movies with bigger budgets and there’s a lot more emphasis on action and quality. I personally think that it’s getting better, however a lot more should be done about the script. People tend to forget how important the story line is.
If you had the opportunity to play any character you like, which character would you play and why?
I would love to play a super villain character. I want to be an action hero or heroine Something like Angelina Jolie’s character in Wanted or Salt. Oh, and I love Milla Jovovich too. I would love to play like her in Resident Evil, kicking the s*** out of zombies. That would be so awesome.
What’s the one movie that you’ve watched over and over again?
I love all of Resident Evil movies and tend to watch them again and again. I’ll never get bored of watching them.
Who would you most like to work with?
Darren Aronofsky, Christopher Nolan, Steven Spielberg, Paul Anderson and the list goes on.
What never fails to make you laugh?
People. You see it all the time on the web. People are really creative and they’re just funny! Also, my friends never fail to make me laugh. And I love to laugh. I laugh all the time that my cheeks hurt. Then I will know I should stop.
