- Dee Poon
Dee Poon’s pedigree is unmistakably refined – mom, Marjorie Yang is the daughter of tycoon K.L Yang and she currently heads textile and apparel company, Esquel Group while dad Dickson Poon is a businessman with interests in textile, movie-making and fashion retail. Dee has shouldered the responsibility of taking on the family business and is currently Managing Director of Esquel Brands and Distribution, and is in charge of the company’s direct to consumer upmarket and mid-market shirt brands , PYE and Determinant. Dee has been inspired by her family’s focus on sustainability and their focus on training and empowering their staff. Two of her pet projects are Project Loopie (a working name) part of it which looks at using the scraps collected in the cutting room to create clothes, and Integral, a forum focused on sustainability that’s hosted by Esquel. In May this year, she received the Sustainability Award at the China Fashion Gala 2019 in New York for efforts in bringing sustainability to the global fashion world, together with fellow recipients, award-winning actress Shu Qi and renowned fashion designer Jason Wu.

A year ago I was at the @copenhagenfashionsummit on stage with a group of Chinese friends talking about the state of sustainability in fashion here in China. It spurred me to push forward my platform for recycled cotton and we were able to bring this to market in less than a year. Project Loopie is still not complete, and will continue to take up a fair amount of my time as we move it forward, but I am certainly already thinking about what other project I can move up and try to kick start for next year!!! This is particularly hard within a context of working at a company where there are already so many initiatives happening ✌?️ but, as my good friend @juliegilhart said – talk is good, but more action please!!! #gogreen #sustainablefashion #makingadifference #esquelgroup #pyeshirts ???
